Do’s and Don’ts: Becoming Computer Literate…

Hello reader,

Many of us on here, come from a generation that grew up when computers and technology were all the rage. The “technology boom.” But we have our parents, grandparents and sometimes Great-Grandparents who don’t always know what to do and become afraid of these alien devices. We tend to call these people “Technophobes”  or people who are “Technophobic.”

I’ve recently been helping my Great Uncle to sort out many differen’t things on the internet. From Ebay to PayPal… Let me tell you – It’s lucky I have a lot of patience. Things that we do on a day to day basis is easy. Sure. But for people who are introduced to new technology like laptops and smartphones, it can be a bit daunting. I know plenty of older people who say to me – “I don’t know how to send emails.” or “I’m not sure about this, can you help me?” Which led me to think about starting my own business to help people with their problems with laptops.

That aside however I have decided to talk about it more of here… If there is someone who you feel needs a bit of help with technology, please stay calm and patient with them. So what if they are older than you? Should they automatically know what EVERYTHING? Do you as an individual know EVERYTHING? No? Then what’s the difference? If you asked for help with something, would you like it, if the other person you asked got angry and frustrated with you because you were a bit slow? These things are to be kept in mind when teaching others about a specific thing. I’m talking mainly about technology. But this can be the same with other things e.g. learning a new skill. Not everyone is able to just explore something without messing it up badly… Let’s be realistic… There will be one day when you’re old and some new fancy thing comes out, and you wont know what the hell to do with it. So what do you do? Well, ask for help of course.

It’s simple. For those who know how to use it. But what might be second nature to us, isn’t that way for someone who wasn’t taught it in school or college.

THINK!

There will be one day when you’re old and some new fancy thing comes out, and you wont know what the hell to do with it. So what do you do? Well, ask for help of course. So you’d hope someone would be there to help you, wouldn’t you? Be helpful to others, and you will deserve the help you need in the future.

– There’s a natural order to life, a balance if you will… what goes around, comes around.

Thank you for reading – sorry it’s short today!

Until the next time ~
